Astrological Aspects
Aspects are the geometric angles formed between planets in a birth chart. They reveal how planetary energies interact — amplifying each other, flowing harmoniously, or creating productive tension.
Conjunction
0°Neutral / DependsOrb: ±8°Two planets occupy the same point in the zodiac. The energies merge completely — often intensely. Whether harmonious or challenging depends on the planets involved. Conjunctions represent concentrated focus and new beginnings.
Sextile
60°HarmoniousOrb: ±6°Two planets are 60° apart, typically connecting compatible elements (fire–air or earth–water). The sextile represents easy flow, supportive energy, and opportunities that arise when you make a small effort. It's the aspect of talent waiting to be used.
Square
90°ChallengingOrb: ±8°Two planets are 90° apart, connecting signs of the same modality (cardinal, fixed, or mutable). The square creates friction and tension that demands action. Though uncomfortable, squares are powerful drivers of growth — they force us to develop mastery.
Trine
120°HarmoniousOrb: ±8°Two planets are 120° apart, connecting signs of the same element. The trine is the most harmonious aspect — energy flows effortlessly between the two planets. Natural talent, ease, and good fortune characterize this aspect. The risk is taking it for granted.
Opposition
180°ChallengingOrb: ±8°Two planets are exactly opposite in the zodiac. Oppositions create awareness through polarity — often through relationships that mirror what we repress. The challenge is integration: bringing two opposing needs into conscious balance rather than projecting one onto others.
Quincunx (Inconjunct)
150°ChallengingOrb: ±3°Two planets are 150° apart — an awkward angle connecting signs with nothing in common (no shared element or modality). The quincunx requires constant adjustment and refinement. It is often associated with health issues, adjustments, and situations that refuse to resolve cleanly.
Semi-Sextile
30°Neutral / DependsOrb: ±2°Two planets are 30° apart, connecting adjacent signs. A minor but useful aspect suggesting subtle opportunities for growth. The energies of the two planets need to learn to work together despite having little in common.
Semi-Square
45°ChallengingOrb: ±2°Two planets are 45° apart, creating a subtle but persistent friction. The semi-square is a minor hard aspect that produces irritation and restlessness — like a small pebble in your shoe. It creates low-level tension that motivates action but can also cause anxiety if ignored. This aspect often indicates areas where minor adjustments and conscious effort are needed to prevent small frustrations from building into larger problems.
Sesquiquadrate
135°ChallengingOrb: ±2°Two planets are 135° apart (a square plus a semi-square). The sesquiquadrate creates internal tension and a sense that something needs to change but the path forward is unclear. More intense than the semi-square, this aspect often manifests as recurring frustrations or situations that repeatedly demand attention. It pushes for growth through persistent discomfort, forcing you to address issues you might prefer to avoid. Mastering sesquiquadrate energy requires patience and willingness to make ongoing adjustments.

Understanding Aspects in Your Chart
When you look at a birth chart, the lines drawn between planets inside the wheel represent aspects. Each aspect has an orb — a tolerance range around the exact degree. The closer an aspect is to exact, the more strongly it manifests in the person's life.
The major aspects (conjunction, sextile, square, trine, opposition) are the most significant. Minor aspects like the quincunx add nuance. When interpreting a chart, experienced astrologers look at which planets are involved, the nature of the aspect, the houses they occupy, and how they fit into the chart as a whole.
