The 12 Astrological Houses
The birth chart is divided into 12 houses, each representing a different sphere of life. Planets in each house operate through its themes. The house where a sign or planet falls shows where that energy manifests in your life.
House Categories
Angular Houses (1, 4, 7, 10)
The four most powerful houses โ they mark the Ascendant, IC, Descendant, and Midheaven. Planets here are highly active.
Succedent Houses (2, 5, 8, 11)
Houses of resources and stability โ they follow and support the angular houses.
Cadent Houses (3, 6, 9, 12)
Houses of transition and preparation โ they prepare for the next angular house.

How the Houses Work
The 12 houses are fixed divisions of the sky measured from the Ascendant โ the degree of the zodiac rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of birth. This means the houses are unique to you, unlike the planets and signs which shift more slowly for everyone.
A planet in a house brings its energy into that area of life. For example, Mars (action, drive) in the Seventh House (partnerships) might indicate someone who is highly competitive in relationships or who attracts dynamic, assertive partners. The sign on the cusp of each house colors how that house's themes express.
The Four Angles
The Ascendant (1st house cusp) is your rising sign โ your mask and first impression. The IC (4th house cusp) is your roots and private self. The Descendant (7th house cusp) shows what you seek in partners. The Midheaven or MC (10th house cusp) is your public reputation and career destiny.
